Today’s Patent- Method and Device for Recognition of a Collision With a Pedestrian
Driving a car can be tricky, when you hit something and get worried whether you have actually hit a human or is it something else. Well, two inventors namely Bernhard Mattes and Gottfried Flik realised this, and to make the life of the drivers a little bit easier came up with an invention called “Method and Device for Recognition of a Collision with a Pedestrian”.
Now, there are two criteria by which it is decided that whether you have hit a human or something else. The first criteria is the pressure which is measured by a sensor on the bumper and a sensor in the area of the front edge of the engine hood. Both are compared with reference quantities typical of impact with a pedestrian.
The second criteria is the changes in acceleration of the vehicle caused by an impact, and then the changes in acceleration are compared with reference quantities which are typical of impact with a pedestrian. The inventors got patent protection over this invention on 31st August 2004 with patent number US6784792. So, now if you hit a pedestrian with a car, you will just know.B
