TODAY’S PATENT – HITTING MITT
Many games and sports involve hitting a ball with one or both hands with various types of gloves. The “Hitting mitt” (US4176407) is a protective garment, was invented by Bert Goebel and Leo Perex. It was patented on 4th December 1979 by the USPTO.
The present invention relates to gloves used in various sports and games which were specially designed as hitting mitt to be worn on either hand or both hands of a player for volleyball, tetherball, and the like.
In these games, the ball itself is normally struck by the palm of a player’s hand and there is a need for some type of protective mitt or device which will not only protect the palm but also the back of the wearer’s hand particularly in the case of volleyball, all without impeding the use of the player’s fingers and thumb. For simplicity in use and economical design, such a mitt should be capable of readily being worn by either a right or left-handed player.
