TODAY’S PATENT – SAFETY EQUIPMENTS FOR BOATS
It is a general practice to provide a safety harness for use by anyone on the deck of a boat. In today’s patent, we will discuss Alan W. Tupper’s invention “Safety equipment’s for boats” (US4313236A), which was patented by the USPTO on 2nd February 1982.
This invention relates to safety equipment for use in small boats. Though there is a safety harness provided in boats, there does exist a danger of moving the attaching hook or clip from point to point in the craft, which might be prone to failure under stress. Given such fallible existing arrangements, a boat has to be put about in order to recover a person who falls overboard. Even if the maneuver is completed, the task of hauling a person back into the boat in waterlogged clothing and perhaps unconscious will often present considerable difficulties.
The objective of this invention is to provide safety equipment for small boats, particularly sailing craft, which enables anyone to work on deck in all weathers. Further, the work in such boats can be done in a condition of continuous secured attachment to the boat, with ease and confidence.
