Patent of the week- COMBINATION ICE TOOL
There are many tools, which may include an ice hammer which is used for trekking, cutting big cubes of ice, as well as there are many other tools which serves related purposes individually, but, there was no single tool which can be used for multiple purposes, for cutting ice cubes, collecting it with a chisel to that of a tool which can be used for picking up ice cubes. All required different individual tools. To overcome this Frank R. Woodward came up with certain new and useful improvement in Combination Ice- Tools which got patent protection with the Patent Number US466549A on 5th January 1892.
This invention comprises of various ice preparing tools with the objective to combine a number of ice related tools in one mechanism, for better efficiency, convenience and economy.
This tool consists of a center in which all the other tools are attached to it in such a manner that they can be used independently for a specific task. The tool is attached with a hammer projected along the alignment of the center, which is used for the purpose of crushing ice. Just opposite to the hammer a hatchet is attached, with a similar alignment with the center, the hatchet has a sharp end which might be used for the purpose of cutting large ice piece and for other related purpose.
This ice-tool also comes with a chisel and opposite to the chisel an ice pick is also there. The central part of the tool comes with an extended arm with a slight bent which acts as a tong for the purpose of picking ice cubes, and the same is attached with a spring for it to act as a handle when other tools are used. Hence this tool serves as a one tool for all the requisite purposes, such as picking ice cubes to that of crushing big ice blocks and promotes convenience for carrying only one tool to carry on multiple tasks.
